Katie Macmillan hernandez

Principal, USC Hybrid college Prep

Katie MacMillan Hernandez grew up in Colorado before attending Harvard University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree with a major in Government. She began her career in education as a math teacher in Prince George’s County, Maryland where she taught Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2, before moving to Los Angeles in 2016 to join USC Hybrid High.

Over the past decade, Ms. Mac has served USC Hybrid as a Math teacher, Grade Level Lead, Assistant Principal of Student Services, and now Principal. Throughout her time at the school, she has helped develop and strengthen signature programs including Advisory, Flex, Senior Capstone, and InTroVenture, always with a focus on creating meaningful learning experiences and ensuring every student is known, challenged, and supported.

As Principal, Ms. Mac is proud to build on USC Hybrid’s strong foundation while continuing to create Positive Multigenerational Change alongside students, families, staff, and community partners. Outside of school, she’s a big volleyball fan and believes the best schools—like the best teams—are built on trust and teamwork.
